Women's Health

The BCMS Students Alumni Association can improve Liberian women’s health by focusing on community education, local partnerships, and open communication. Main strategies encompass programs like mother-to-mother classes and hygiene workshops, partnering with government and local health organizations, and using alumni for advocacy and support.

Community-Based Education and Empowerment

  • Develop health education initiatives: We will arrange and conduct programs including mother-to-mother classes, nutrition workshops, and training on hygiene practices, like building dish racks, to improve community health.

  • Tailor programs to local needs: We will collaborate with communities to identify their unique needs and design fitting programs, making the programs useful.

  • Empower women. Women will receive education and skills to support their health management.

Partnership and Collaboration

  • Partner with the Ministry of Health: Work with the Liberia Health Ministry to match programs with national plans for lasting impact.

  • Collaborate with NGOs and community leaders: Collaborate with other NGOs and community health workers to build a wider support network.

  • Expand membership: Consider broadening the association’s membership by including other professionals who help women and families, such as nurses, teachers, and community leaders. This will amplify the message and have a bigger impact.

Advocacy and Communication

  • Promote transparent communication: We will build community and local health institution trust through open health risk communication.

  • Use social media and technology: We will use social media to disseminate correct health information, combat false narratives, and monitor “infodemics.”

  • Build trust through open dialogue: We will build trust by openly sharing information and talking with community leaders and the public.

Resource mobilization and capacity building

  • Employ the alumni network: Consult the BCMS alumni network for funding, technical advice, and support to improve women's health in Liberia.

  • Establish a local presence: We will establish a local office in Liberia to oversee initiatives and provide support, maintaining consistency and enhancing local knowledge.
