Homelessness in Liberia
Poverty, inadequate social services, and gender inequality cause homelessness for women, girls, and boys in Liberia. Poor educational and economic prospects for women and fragile infrastructure make the problem worse.
Effects on Women, Girls, and Boys
-
Homeless women, girls, and boys are especially at risk of abuse.
-
Domestic abuse is a major problem, and victims may struggle to leave because of a lack of resources.
-
People in vulnerable groups in places such as West Point, a slum in Monrovia, often live in unstable circumstances .
To address the underlying problems of homelessness in Liberia, the BCMS Students' Alumni Association could create a program that tackles related issues such as poverty, inadequate social services, and gender inequality. Homelessness often results from these problems, especially for women, girls, and boys. They lack the resources for basic needs and face discrimination that restricts education and job prospects.
